Cooley Landing

Did you know that the City of East Palo Alto is in the process of developing a new park on the bay?  Cooley Landing is a 9-acre peninsula at the end of Bay Road with amazing potential to be a place of recreation, education, and conservation in the community of East Palo Alto.

East Palo Alto Community Celebrates Successful Farmers Market Season

Thanksgiving Shopping at the EPA Farmers' Market

Get your Thanksgiving shopping done early at the East Palo Alto Community Farmers' Market this Sunday, from 2 to 5pm. We expect to be joined by a NEW all-organic vegetable grower, just in time!

Our growers plan to have (almost) everything you'll need for a delicious feast, including:*

* sweet potatoes (they're especially sweet around T-giving)

* regular potatoes and garlic (very delicious together)

* celery, apples and onions (stuffing!)

* pumpkins (is it too late to bake a pie?)

More than 500 People Attend LAUSD School Garden Fair

With many hoping to plant seeds that will result in school gardens sprouting on their campuses, hundreds of school teachers, administrators, parents, students and volunteers flocked to North Hollywood, Saturday, for the 2nd Annual Los Angeles School Garden Resource Fair.

"I applaud the hundreds of educators, students and parents who attended the resource fair because they understand the educational value that campus-based school gardens bring to our children," said Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board Member Julie Korenstein, who addressed the crowd and encouraged educators to launch school gardens on their campuses.

East Palo Alto hasn't had a supermarket within its borders since the early 1970s, but it does have two McDonalds — just 1.5 miles apart. Other dots on the fast-food map are a nearby Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Express.

To buy fresh produce, residents have to travel outside the city's boundaries or depend on the limited selections on corner stores' shelves.
